The London Season was historically the time of year when débutantes, who were upper-class young ladies of marriageable age, would be taking part in the social whirl that was commonly known as “Coming Out”. Until 1958 when our current Queen abolished the practice, this started with the young or sometimes not so young Ladies being presented at court by their mother or other suitable female escort. With this formality over they were then free to attend a series of events and balls, which the privileged always attended. The débutantes main priority being to search for a suitable husband!

In modern times the need to have a market place for husbands has ended but we still have a series of world class popular events that everyone is welcome to attend and at which catering for the privileged has been replaced by corporate entertaining.

• 15th to 19th June - Horse Racing - Royal Ascot
• 21st June to 4th July - Tennis  - Wimbledon Championships
• 30th June to 4th July - Rowing - Henley Royal Regatta
• 19th to 25th July - Air Show - Farnborough
